Neurological Rehabilitation

Neurological Rehabilitation
🧠 Neurological physical therapy — rebuilding the connection between the nervous system and movement

Neurological conditions may involve the central or peripheral nervous system.

• Central nervous system conditions include stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, vestibular disorders, brain tumors, and cerebellar conditions. Treatment emphasizes neuromuscular facilitation and functional training.

• Peripheral nervous system conditions include facial nerve palsy and nerve-plexus injuries. Treatment may include electrical stimulation and therapeutic exercise when appropriate.

These conditions can affect walking, balance, hand control, and many other daily activities. Neurological rehabilitation is grounded in neuroplasticity: the brain and nervous system can learn, adapt, and develop new movement strategies through appropriate stimulation and practice.

Your therapist assesses medical history, cognition, muscle tone, reflexes, motor control, sensation, balance, coordination, strength, range of motion, functional mobility, and gait. Short- and long-term goals are then developed using task-oriented training, motor learning, proprioceptive facilitation, movement control, and biomechanical principles.

Home programs, caregiver education, and assistive-device consultation may be included to support independence and participation. Regular reassessment ensures the plan progresses safely and effectively with the patient and family.
